I was an oil jobber for 34 years. During that time Mobil Oil Company told us that there was no difference between P/S fluid and ATF except for the color. That would have been Type A and Type F ATF they were referring to.

If either ATF or PS fluid are acceptable, I'd go with clear PS fluid instead of bright red ATF in case of spillage or leaks.

Just wanted to thank all who responded to my inquery about convertible top fluid.  Looks like the results are evenly split between ATF and power steering fluid as the fluid of choice.
