Awesome, thanks for the info!

Melvin has a good point, do not leave gauge pegged.  You can ground it, turn key on for a few seconds, watch the gauge go up then turn off the key.  Don’t leave it pegged.  Never had a problem doing this dozens of times on several cars.   If you have a test light try Melvins way.

What this tells you is your gauge is getting power and it’s good, and also the path way along the sending unit wire is good (if you ground the sending unit end of the wire).  This applies to fuel and oil gauges too.   You can also check ohms at the sending unit between the top and a good ground, though this is harder on an a/c car.  Again first thing I’d check is 5-pin connector.   Easy check.

When testing any gauge I use a test light at sending unit it acts like signal from a sending unit. Then turn key on to see if gauge moves turn key off do not let gauge peg all the way over because that will damage gauge. do not ground that could burn out gauge , printed circuit board or voltage regulator.

Harry did anyone respond?  The sending unit is just a resistor to ground.  A couple things to check first- the 5-pin connector on the back of the circuit card- pull it off and put it back on to try and re-seat the connection for sending unit, this connector frequently gets a little loose or the pins oxidize.  Could also ground sending unit wire and see if your temp pointer moves all the way to hot.

Hi group  my temperature gage is not working, getting power to the sending unit, it happen suddenly, any tips would be helpful. If sending unit needs replacing it will require removing A/C, ugh.

Thanks group, Harry
