I would never install a carpet in the trunk. They tend to absorb and retain water and moisture like a sponge. If you have trunk leaks or live in a damp part of the world, this would not be a good thing. OTOH, a rubber trunk mat won’t absorb moisture and can easily be rolled up to allow evaporation if it gets wet in the trunk.
