In a dual point distributor, there is a tiny wire, insulated in black rubber, with spade terminals on each end that connects both breakers. This wire can fail intermittently when the highly flexible wire strands within give up the ghost and then come together again. Very hard to diagnose. Looks good. Maybe ‘tain’t. I see my EE friend has pointed out the test to see if you have +12V +/- at the coil when cranking. If not, trace it back to the battery. The start and run wires from the ignition switch come from the ignition switch and go through the troublesome bulkhead connector. The switch gets its power from the battery when cranking and this comes thru the bulkhead connector, also. Pull the two multi-wire connectors from the bulkhead connector at the firewall and examine for corrosion. Easy test. Turn on the headlights briefly. “ALTERNATOR” gauge should indicate negative indicating power is flowing from the battery, thru the bulkhead connector to the light switch and back out thru the bulkhead connector to the lights. Then check the temperature of the two underhood connectors. If hot, corrosion may be present. Yes—there are some longtime MoPar problems with the bulkhead connector, resistor and distributor. All simple but can be fatal, including underhood smoke and fire. Courage! Rich Barber, ME, PE 300K Conv. Battery charged, key on pusha de button… cranks nice.. no start. Got the trusty ohm-V meter out and got to testin. Resister good, coil good but tried a spare as well… zero spark. Best I can tell, no ignition system wiring is involved in the steering column ( unless you tell me different!) Horn & directionals working. Before I climb into the rats nest of wiring under the dash… plz tell me what I’m missing. This is my second ever MOPAR…. All GM up till now… HELP!!🙏🏻 -- For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylang --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Chrysler 300 Club International" group.
